JANUARY, 2008

LETTER FROM: DANES SOCCER CLUB PRESIDENT
To: The Danes S.C. members January 8, 2008
Godt Nytår / Happy New Year

Well, it’s 2008 and we have some work to do this year! We had a good 2007 with 3-4 teams competing in, winter, spring & fall sessions, as well as a couple of tournaments during the summer. Our summer golfing & practices were fun and our annual club party was very well attended.

This year brings some new concerns for the club. First, SAS is no longer sponsoring the open team, and for the first time in many years the O-50’s don’t have a team in the winter session. We definitely need to focus on new members & possible sponsors in the community. The younger players from the open & O-30 team need to actively get involved & bring out friends & acquaintances. There are fewer & fewer older members involved, meaning that a few do most of the work organizing & filling out paperwork.

That brings us to another topic for discussion. Opening up the club to more involvement by the other Scandinavian communities & of course anyone else who would be interested in the club and its activities. We talked last year about a name change for the club to, possibly, The Vikings SC or FC. This would be more inclusive for everyone, considering the make up of the club. I don’t see anything in our current club bylaws that would prevent us from a name change. Companies as well as other organizations have done so. We would of course have a Board discussion and vote first. Then have a discussion & vote at the next AGM in May.

This is all food for thought for the coming year. We are at 32 years running & want to keep the club viable for many more. Any input from club members on the above items is appreciated & should be e-mailed to the board. Have a great 2008 & we’ll see you at the fields/links/bars or where ever else!!            Mange Tak!/Thanks!     Tage
