SCANDINAVIAN HOUR: Host Doug Warne 9 to 10 a.m. every Saturday.on KKNW 1150AM
SISTERHOOD EVERGREEN LODGE #40: Prior to the meeting we heard from Joe Wenzel, FICF, who spoke on making sound investments for the individual and return of investment choices. Joe also gave a handout comparing rates of return on investments. The November 5, 2008 meeting was called to order at 7:34 PM by Dina Rohm, filling in for President Marete Eadie and VP Lisa Svitavsky, who was detained and arrived late. Second Trustee Edith Sorensen and Marshall Nicole Al-Khedairy also were absent. All other officers were present. The meeting was started with a draped charter as memorial for Clara Clausen, who recently passed away. Clara had been a member since 1958 and has been living in Gresham, Oregon. Minutes of our last meeting were approved as read. Karen read the financial report. Correspondence included the annual Scandinavian Christmas music airing on 1150 AM radio KKNW with Doug Warne. (Partner Ron Olsen has passed away.) Irene Jensen made a motion for$30.00 sponsorship, which was seconded by Lisa Svitavsky and the motion passed. Trustee’s report was given by Anne Hollister. Anne will be sending out Christmas cards to members over 80. All members reminded to bring variety of extra greeting cards to restock our supply. No bills received. Edith is still recovering and we wish her well! Special Committees: 1) 2009 District Convention committee is meeting monthly reported by Dina and Karen. They are considering music for the 1950’s on Friday and Big Band music for Saturday night. Kelley B. suggested the committee look into activities for the younger set, grade school and early teens, having a room for their activities and perhaps a supervised outing. Kelley offered to help organize as she remembers previous conventions where children of attendees had a place to be while parents were in meetings. Dina will bring the ideas to Convention Committee. A reminder was made to bring items for the fish pond, raffles and door prizes. 2) A Nominating committee of Greta Ballard and Dina Rohm has been appointed by our President. Please let them know how you would like to support our Sisterhood.
Julestue
Ellen Rossen, representing Brotherhood and Charlotte Rasmussen, Chairman
of Julestue 3) Charity Committee. The meeting continued with members agreeing to support the Orion Charity as we did last year. Anne B. will contact Kay Wight, our member working with Orion. Members are asked to support this worthy cause for homeless teens by donating much needed items such as: SOCKS, GLOVES, HATS, COATS, BLANKETS, and TRAVEL- SIZE TOILETRIES. Anne B. reported on the annual NWDF meeting on October 11th with the Finance Report as presented by Chairman Bob Thompson and the Transition Team’s final report and business plan. These reports are available from Anne. In summary, there has been a realization and recommendation that NWDF board needs to emphasize better communication and restructure the organization by eliminating the Executive Board and have less board members but more active participation, communication and volunteerism from the board and its members if the NWDF wishes to survive and flourish with meeting the mission. Reminder: Please bring Christmas desserts for our December meeting/celebration. --Meeting adjourned at 8:34 PM Submitted by Anne Blackburn, Lodge #40 Secretary |
