SISTERHOOD EVERGREEN LODGE #40: June 3, 2009 meeting was called to order by President Lisa Svitavsky at 7:30PM with the Pledge of Allegiance. All officers were present except Anne Hollister, who was excused. The meeting was opened with a reading by Past-President Marete Eadie of a paragraph on the history of Denmark’s Constitution Day. This day from 1849 is known as Grundlovsdag. Minutes of our last meeting were approved as read. Correspondence included a thank you note from Melanie Berg for the Past Presidents’ celebration; an upcoming puppet show at Nordic Heritage Museum on 6/14; an invitation to a Danish dinner to help support Enumclaw Lodge building on Sat 6/13. A bill was presented and approved for payment of newsletter printing and mailing. Financial report was read by Karen Favero and report of gross earnings of Convention, minus our deposit, cost a little over $100 for the Sisterhood to cosponsor. Well done, Convention Committee!!! Trustee’s report was given by Greta Ballard. Cards were sent around to sign for greetings to sisters. Unfinished business: Delegates report given by Greta Ballard included change to recognizing just one outstanding member each year. Nicole Al-Khedairy stepped down as District Secretary and Dina Rohm agreed to step in. The zoo trip in Issaquah got rave reviews. Vivi Hammond’s sparkling Little Mermaid centerpieces with an added diamond pendant helped to celebrate our 60th convention. Next year will be in Eugene, Valley River Inn on April 23-24, 2010.
New Business:
Upcoming Danish films from the Seattle International film festival were
announced by the secretary. Next meeting Greta will be bringing a
basket with surprise items in it to be used as an ongoing fundraiser
each month. Lisa gave a synopsis on the origin of Father’s day, which
was established in 1910 by a daughter who wished to pay tribute to her
father. It was noted Denmark celebrates Father’s Day on the June 5
holiday. Members then took turns sharing the origins of and
remembrances of their own fathers. There being no further business, at
8:30 PM meeting adjourned until September 2nd. Danish Picnic
scheduled for 8/16 at Jens L. in Woodinville.
